Types of teachers
Based on the level you want to teach at, you'll need a different perspective and skill set, and it's best to determine that before embarking on any career path. Here's a look at the different levels:
Pre-primary school teacher
The pre-primary teacher is the second most important person in a student's life after parents. They supervise and teach students in the age group of 3 to 5 years. In addition to teaching the very basics of the alphabet, it is the teachers who lay the basic framework for the social interaction and personality that the child will develop as he grows up.
Elementary school teacher
Elementary school teachers work with 1st to 5th graders aged 6 to 12. It is the responsibility of elementary school teachers to cultivate life skills in children as well as age-appropriate basic educational concepts. They build lasting impressions that will remain with the child for a lifetime.
High school teacher
Graduates who work as secondary school teachers teach students from 6th to 10th grade. High school teachers are responsible for thoroughly understanding the lives of their students and helping them pursue their hobbies and aspirations in addition to their studies. They encourage students to identify their individual interests and talents.
Upper secondary school teacher
Postgraduate students with in-depth knowledge of various specialized fields become teachers of upper secondary schools. These teachers explain in detail the subjects taught in the school and provide students with basic career guidance.
Special educator
Teachers who work with students who have special needs—such as those who may be on the autism spectrum or have learning disabilities—are known as special educators. These educators are specially trained to understand how best to deal with children with special needs.
Lecturer/Professor
College teachers are usually referred to as Assistant Professors or Professors or Lecturers. Teaching at university is very different from teaching at school. Students come to college to specialize, so the instructor must have deep knowledge. College students are also much older and share a different dynamic with their teachers.
